Key ThinkCapital Rules for Traders
This part of our ThinkCapital Review details the essential rules for this ThinkCapital prop firm. Understanding these guidelines is crucial for successfully securing your ThinkCapital funding.
Strict News Trading Policy
ThinkCapital enforces a strict no-news-trading policy on both Challenge and Funded accounts. All trading activity, including opening or closing positions and triggered stop losses or take profits, is prohibited within a 2-minute window before and after any high-impact news event. Any violation of this rule is considered a hard breach and leads to immediate account termination and forfeiture of all profits.
Policy on EAs and Copy Trading
- Expert Advisors (EAs): The use of EAs is permitted but requires the purchase of a specific EA Add-On for your challenge.
- Copy Trading: You are allowed to copy trades between your own ThinkCapital accounts. For external copying, your ThinkCapital account must be the master account. Using a third-party master to copy trades into your account is not permitted. The EA Add-On is also required for copy trading.
Prohibited Trading Strategies and Behaviors
To promote professional risk management, ThinkCapital strictly prohibits any trading behavior that resembles gambling or recklessness. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Overleveraging, "all-in" trades, and Martingale strategies.
- Group trading, hedging across multiple accounts, and using challenge-passing services.
- Latency arbitrage, high-frequency trading (HFT), and grid trading.
Violations can result in warnings, profit deductions, or account termination. For more details, you can read the official guidelines on Gambling Behavior and Prohibited Strategies.
Account Management Rules
- Inactivity Rule: You must place at least one trade every 30 days to keep your account active. Failure to do so will result in account termination.
- VPN/VPS Policy: The use of a standard VPN is generally prohibited. However, connections from a dedicated Forex VPS are permitted for running approved EAs and algorithms.
Minimum Profitable Days for Payouts
A key requirement for receiving a payout is meeting the minimum profitable trading days. A profitable day is defined as a day with at least 0.5% profit where the account balance is above the initial starting balance.
- Lightning (1-Step): No minimum days are required during the evaluation. On the funded account, you need 3 profitable days to qualify for a payout.
- Dual Step (2-Step): You are required to have 3 profitable days in both the evaluation and the funded stages.
- Nexus (3-Step): No minimum days are required during the evaluation. On the funded account, you need 3 profitable days to qualify for a payout.
